If you’re seeking outdoor recreational opportunities and beer, move to Bend, Oregon.
For Bend, tourism is like a gateway drug. People come here and visit, and then they want a little more, and the next thing you know they are moving here and figuring out how to make a living.
Bend is a mecca for those with a thrill seeking passion and an entrepreneurial spirit. The City of Bend even has a whole section on their website about how to create a thriving business in town. And then there’s this fun little spoof video about our “beer, tech, and rec” scene…
We have year round recreational opportunities, scenery that’s unparalleled, great beer (and cider, and vodka, and wine…), and we love dogs (seriously, we REALLY love dogs).
And in spite of – what some folks may say – the ‘rising amount of traffic‘, and ‘overpriced housing prices‘, we can only equate this growth to an exciting time in the city’s evolution:
We’ve got the new OSU Campus being built as we speak, an amazing new Ice Pavilion almost ready to open, the roads (while under construction a lot, it’s true) are being worked on and improved, new businesses are moving to town (hooray for the emerging tech scene!), and our parks, trails and waterways are at our fingertips and ready for adventure at ANY time.
As for housing prices, as with any market prices go up and they go down. We are seeing homes priced all over the board at the moment, depending on what part of town you’re in. But as with any real estate market, if a home is priced right, it’ll sell. Buyers in town can still get a good amount of home for their dollar too, from UNDER $100k up through $8M+!
BOTTOM LINE: We think Bend, Oregon is pretty awesome. You only have to hit the trails, or the slopes, or stroll through Drake Park to see why we’re proud to call Bend our home. Is it perfect? Of course not. But it’s emerging, evolving, and thriving, and we think that’s pretty darn close enough.
